Pagani Becomes the Highest-Ranking Latina DC Democratic Party Officer

 Washington, DC — May 7, 2021 — The DC Latino Caucus (DCLC) is pleased to announce that board member Ruth Pagani was elected treasurer of the District of Columbia Democratic Party. She joins party Chair Charles Wilson, Vice Chair Linda Gray, Recording Secretary Alan Karnofsky and Corresponding Secretary Monica Roché as an officer.

Pagani is as an add-on committee member to the party and previously served as female ex officio, representing the Latino Caucus. Alongside Pagani, DCLC is represented at the state level by its newly elected president Jose “Joe” Barrios, and ex officio members Luz Martinez and Juan Ulloa. Pagani, Barrios, Martinez and Ulloa were sworn-in at the start of the Party’s May 6, general meeting.

Her political career began under Ron Brown at the Democratic National Committee, and she has worked, or volunteered, for the Clinton, Gore, Obama and Biden presidential campaigns. Locally, she campaigned for mayors Anthony Williams and Muriel Bowser, Attorney General Karl Racine and At-Large Councilmember Robert White.

Professionally, Pagani has worked as either a lobbyist, or consultant, for the National Puerto Rican Coalition, the National Council of La Raza, the National Women’s Political Caucus, the Rainbow Coalition, the National Hispanic Housing Council, Vida Senior Centers, Washington English Center and the United Planning Organization. At the federal and city level, she has worked for the Department of Labor, DC Office of Planning, DC Housing Authority and the DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer.

Pagani is a first generation, state-side born Puerto Rican, raised by a union family in Bronx, New York. A DC resident since 1988, she is a graduate of Grinnell College, and received her master’s in public administration from the George Washington University.
